Regen Melbourne

Regen Melbourne is a collaborative initiative aiming to transform Melbourne into a regenerative and resilient city, capable of addressing the environmental, economic, and social challenges of the 21st century. Inspired by the principles of the doughnut economy, it brings together a diverse network of local actors, including community organizations, businesses, researchers, and policymakers. Together, they work on three main projects:

  • Making waterways “swimmable”: This project aims to regenerate Melbourne’s waterways to promote biodiversity and allow residents to swim in them again.

  • Transforming neighborhoods into thriving communities: This initiative seeks to metamorphose neighborhoods, specifically Melbourne’s streets, into dynamic, green, and inclusive spaces.

  • Creating a circular and regenerative food system: The goal is to develop a food system for Greater Melbourne that is both circular and regenerative, reducing waste, supporting local agriculture, and ensuring healthy and accessible food for all.
